Brisbane Open House – Stradbroke Edition – 26 July
Brisbane Open House is delighted to present a special Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) Edition, offering an exclusive opportunity to explore some of the island’s architecturally significant homes and hear directly from the architects behind them.
This curated day will feature guided tours of six residences, each demonstrating a distinct response to Stradbroke Island’s striking natural landscape and rich architectural heritage. As one of the world’s largest sand islands, Stradbroke presents a unique set of design challenges—demanding structures that are not only visually compelling but also resilient to salt-laden winds, shifting sands, and tropical weather conditions.
The island’s architectural narrative is deeply rooted in its Indigenous heritage, early settler influences, and contemporary coastal design innovations. The Quandamooka people, the island’s Traditional Owners, have maintained a profound connection to this land for thousands of years, while more recent architectural developments—from humble beach shacks to contemporary retreats—illustrate a continued dialogue between tradition, sustainability, and modern design.
This exclusive event invites you to step inside some of Stradbroke’s most striking architect-designed homes. Through expert-led tours, gain rare insight into the design philosophies, materials, and environmental considerations that define these extraordinary residences.
