Payne Street in Auchenflower is famous for its residents opening their hearts and homes at Halloween and Christmas, and every day neighbors wave at each other on their afternoon walks.

Casa Jardim (The Garden House) is a Queenslander reimagined to combine the architect’s South American upbringing with a love for Queensland’s lifestyle, warmly embracing the community.

The existing worker’s cottage was raised to create an indoor-outdoor ground floor that connects right through to the street, resolving the sloping block and the overland flood site requirements.

A wide and inviting front entrance features a curtain of vines cascading from the second level to welcome the neighbours and benefit the whole street.

Inside, the living room boasts a cozy fireplace and opens to the outdoors on all sides to invite cross breezes and offer an enticing glimpse of a backyard entertainment area promising many great times.

A bar area awaits beside a freshwater swimming pool, landscaped to feel more like an oasis, all within a private inner-city backyard.

Thoughtful design around dual-purpose social spaces creates settings for each stage of the day and times of the year.

Overall, Casa Jardim is a beautiful and functional home that reflects the architect’s unique style while warmly embracing the community and providing a comfortable and inviting space for residents.
