Nestled in the grounds beside the imposing Cathedral, St Stephen’s Chapel began life in 1850 as St Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church, serving Brisbane’s considerable Catholic population. It was the only Catholic Church in Brisbane until 1874 and is one of Brisbane’s oldest buildings made by non-convict labour.
