Urban Utilities invites community members to experience an exclusive guided tour of the Wynnum Sewage Treatment Plant!
Discover the fascinating process of how wastewater is treated and how current innovations/technologies are used in this essential service. The tour will be held at Tanker Street, where you’ll get a firsthand look at the inner workings of the plant.
The plant treats wastewater from residential, commercial, and industrial sources in the Wynnum-Manly area before safely releasing treated water back into the environment or reusing it for non-potable purposes.
Urban Utilities (formed in 2010) took over management from Brisbane City Council and other local authorities. The plant was upgraded to include nutrient removal technologies to protect Moreton Bay, a sensitive marine ecosystem. Odour control, automation, and remote monitoring capabilities were added. The plant became part of a broader strategy to improve sustainability, including potential use of recycled water and biosolids management.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to learn about sustainable water management in a fun and interactive way!
