Garden Variety is a talk series curated and hosted by Brisbane architecture practice Vokes and Peters. This informal forum fosters a celebration of ideas and culture through the stories of inspired thinkers and makers. The line-up of past speakers includes urban designers, landscape architects, graphic designers, artisans, tailors, architects, exhibition designers and brand advisors.

Garden Variety is delighted to bring artist Judy Watson and researcher Cathy Keys to the 2020 talk series. This event on St Helena Island (Noogoon) is co-hosted by Milani Gallery, and organised by Brisbane Open House.

Essential to bring: battery powered torch or lantern, as there is no electrical lighting on the island. Attendees will be required to walk across uneven ground and climb five steps on the jetty, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Attendees may also wish to bring a blanket to sit on, insect repellent, a water bottle and a collapsible camp chair if they wish.

Catering: A meal is served on the boat on the way out to the island, included in the ticket price. Brisbane Open House will provide participants with face masks to wear when in the servery area (COVID Safe requirement). The bar will be open on the boat, drinks are not included in the ticket price.

Milani Gallery, Vokes and Peters and Brisbane Open House welcome you to this Asia Pacific Architecture Festival event. We acknowledge the traditional Indigenous owners of the land where we work and where this event is held, Noogoon. We acknowledge that this land was never ceded.

The event is sold out now.

NOTE – This event will go ahead as long as social distancing rules are still relaxed and BOH is assured of staff and participants’ safety in running this event.
