Visitors took a bus tour of Toowong Cemetery with the current cemetery staff and discover the history and mystical stories about the cemetery that has been passed down through the generations of cemetery staff since the late 1800s. Presented by Brisbane City Council and the Friends of Toowong Cemetery.
The Toowong Cemetery is a Brisbane icon and was once the city’s main cemetery. The cemetery is home to over 120,000 people with colonial monuments, buildings and structures dating back as early as the 1870’s. The original Sexton’s office, gates and ornamental fencing at the main entrance, Amenities building and the shelters will all be available throughout the day and the office will be open for people wishing to find relatives that may be buried in the cemetery.
