Ambassador Darren Lockyer

“Architecture and design have always been a passion of mine, but over the last few years they have played a significant role in my life. Engaging an architect to design and project manage the building of our new family home here in Brisbane has been an incredible journey.

Like many Brisbanites I am proud of our rich architectural heritage which includes quintessential Queenslander houses floating on their stilts against the hills of older suburbs and the many more modern interpretations of this style that now dot our city as it expands.

Similarly, Brisbane has many colonial era public buildings rubbing shoulders with cutting edge contemporary commercial spaces that create a vibrant city landscape.

Brisbane Open House invites design and architecture enthusiasts of all ages to explore our city from inside some of our most significant and iconic buildings. Gain free access to some of our oldest and most interesting buildings, take a tour of brand new and exciting towers or show the family how an emergency centre or dental school works.

I am proud to be a part of the Brisbane Open House team and enjoy the opportunity to meet new designers, learn new design ideas and embrace the future of Queensland’s architecture. Good design is about buildings and spaces that you never get tired of and I encourage you to join me in learning more about them at Brisbane Open House.”
