Pre-booked guided tours and some general access // Bus Loop

In 2025, Brisbane Airport celebrated its 100th anniversary, marking a century of connecting the region to the world. In 2026, projects across the precinct are bringing Brisbane Airport into a new era.

Officially opening at Eagle Farm in 1925, the airport expanded to its current site in 1988. Key milestones include the opening of the International Terminal in 1995, the Domestic Terminal in 1998 and the New Parallel Runway in 2020. From its humble beginnings, Brisbane Airport has been integral to the city’s growth, welcoming events including World Expo ’88, the 1982 Commonwealth Games and the 2014 G20 Summit.

Today, Brisbane Airport is the third busiest in Australia by passenger numbers, serving more than 22.6 million travellers in FY24. The airport operates 24/7, connecting to 32 international and 62 domestic destinations, and links regional Queenslanders with world-class medical services in Brisbane through critical aeromedical partners including the Royal Flying Doctor Service and LifeFlight. BNE is more than just an airport: over 600 businesses are located at the precinct, employing more than 20,000 people and making Brisbane Airport an essential employment hub for our city and state.

Join the bus loop

For one day only, hop on a looping bus service through the Brisbane Airport precinct, stopping at spots most visitors miss. The loop runs from the Skygate precinct and takes in two landmarks: the Kingsford Smith Memorial, home of the “Southern Cross” aircraft, and the brand new Fellowship Place (formerly Plane Spotters), a plane-spotting platform featuring a real Fokker F28 aircraft tail installation. At Fellowship Place, feel free to stay, grab a coffee and watch the planes, then hop on the next bus back to Skygate (arriving approximately every 30 minutes). Grab a bingo card on board and keep an eye out for aircraft, fire trucks and more.

All funds collected through ticket sales will be donated to Brisbane Airport’s aeromedical partner, the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Future BNE

By 2050, the airport expects to exceed 50 million annual passengers. To support this growth, Brisbane Airport is investing more than $5 billion over the next decade in over 150 projects, including a third passenger terminal, major renovations to both existing terminals, significant commercial developments and much more. What’s happening at Brisbane Airport will improve the way you travel, create jobs and prepare Brisbane for 2032 and beyond.
