Marlowe is located within the restored heritage building at 105 Melbourne Street, on the prominent corner of Melbourne Street, Merivale Street and Fish Lane in South Brisbane. Originally constructed around 1938, the art deco building has been carefully revitalised by Twohill & James, transforming a once-deteriorating structure into a vibrant destination for dining, retail and boutique offices.
The refurbishment has retained the building’s character while introducing new life and purpose, including the careful integration of a heritage-listed World War II bunker within the site.
At ground level, Marlowe Restaurant occupies the former apartments, thoughtfully preserving their original layout. Living rooms, bedrooms and kitchenettes have been adapted into intimate dining spaces, maintaining the scale and atmosphere of a home. This approach creates a warm and welcoming environment that reflects the building’s residential past while supporting a contemporary restaurant experience.
Join the project team behind the restoration of 105 Melbourne Street for a guided tour exploring the transformation of this historic building. Led by representatives from Aria, Twohill & James, J.AR Office (restaurant architect), and Fanda Group Restaurant Director David Flynn, the tour will provide insight into the heritage restoration, adaptive reuse strategy and design approach behind Marlowe. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the building while hearing directly from the team involved in delivering the project.
Tours run on Saturday 18 July. Bookings open in June.
