Opened by the Mayoress of Brisbane (Mrs. M. J. Barry) 27 July 1924, Merthyr Croquet Club celebrates 100 years of croquet in New Farm Park this year.

Growing to from 2 to 4 croquet lawns in 1928, (and back to 2 at the turn of the millennium) the club has been a sporting fixture and “hidden gem” in New Farm Park for many years.

A catastrophic fire 1 June 1961 destroyed the clubhouse, club records, honour boards and equipment. It was rebuilt shortly after thanks to club members and the generosity of the Cornelius family. Since then the club has weathered many significant flooding events (1974, 2011, 2022) and manages to stay afloat thanks to the strong spirits of its members.

Today, social and competitive games of croquet are played on our beautiful lawns and we are host to many private events (weddings, birthdays, corporate functions).
