The alterations and additions to NA House were conceived in the aftermath of the 2011 Brisbane floods, which left the original Queenslander home unliveable. This prompted a comprehensive refurbishment and extension—designed not only to accommodate a growing family but to future-proof the house against inevitable future flood events. Stage 1, initiated in 2011, established a resilient design framework that proved its effectiveness during the 2022 Brisbane floods, when the home remained largely unscathed.
With the commencement of Stage 2, the owners sought to build upon this foundation—expanding living spaces, refining material quality, and enhancing adaptability. A masterplan guided this next phase, ensuring continuity in design and function. The recent additions have extended the home’s entertainment areas into the undercroft, creating more space for both family life and social gatherings. Subtle yet purposeful extensions further strengthen the home’s connection to its surroundings, reinforcing the flood-resilient ethos established in Stage 1.
NA House stands as a testament to thoughtful, climate-responsive architecture, evolving to meet the challenges of both today and the future.
