Windmill Tower and Service Reservoirs: 226 Wickham Terrace, Spring Hill
Saturday : 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM
General access (self guided) // Scheduled history talks (bookings not required)

Step back in time on Wickham Terrace, one of Brisbane's earliest streets, and uncover a fascinating snapshot of the city's past from Observatory Park.

Enjoy exclusive access to two of Brisbane's most significant heritage places: the Windmill Tower and the Spring Hill Service Reservoirs – no bookings required. The iconic Windmill Tower, Brisbane's oldest surviving convict-built structure, was constructed in 1828 to grind grain for the Moreton Bay Penal Settlement and stands as a powerful reminder of the city's earliest days. Hidden just behind the Windmill Tower, the Spring Hill Reservoirs reveal majestic underground chambers that once stored Brisbane's first water supply, piped all the way from the Enoggera Reservoir.

Discover more stories of Spring Hill with free historical talks. From the convict era through to the 1970s and into the present day, these talks draw on the heritage places around this remarkable location that bring Brisbane's layered history to life.

📍 The Windmill Tower and Spring Hill Service Reservoirs are open to the public from 9am to 4pm on Saturday with historical talks taking place every hour from 9:30am – simply drop in!
