Step back in time to Brisbane’s convict and colonial past and explore one of Brisbane’s early streets by joining Brisbane City Council’s guided walking tour of the inner city. Take a journey along Wickham Terrace to discover the stories of Brisbane’s past from the harsh Moreton Bay Penal Settlement, through to a thriving colonial town, and into the modern era.
Delve into the history of Spring Hill, one of the early streets of Brisbane and its most iconic and historical buildings. Experience the grandeur of the City Baptist Tabernacle and beautiful All Saints’ Anglican Church, and hear the tales of several of Brisbane’s most innovative buildings. We’ll pass by Brisbane’s first multi-storey apartment block built in the 1920s for a group of medical practitioners, marvel at Brisbane’s first large-scale fresh water supply system, and explore Queensland’s oldest building, the Windmill Tower.
Take a rare chance to step inside Brisbane’s oldest structure, the Windmill Tower and learn of the difficult life of a convict in Brisbane, and get a glimpse of the majestic arches that support the underground Service Reservoirs that were built to store Brisbane’s early water supply with fresh water sourced from Enoggera Dam.
