Queensland is more than just a beautiful place to live—its buildings, streets, and public spaces shape our communities, how we connect and how we experience our culture and climate. The Office of the Queensland Government Architect (OQGA) understands this and leads design thinking to shape vibrant, inclusive places across Queensland.

As the state’s leading voice on design excellence in the built environment, the OQGA champions architecture and urban design that enhances quality of life. It provides independent, expert advice to government, industry and local communities on how to create more sustainable, inclusive and inspiring places. Whether it’s influencing the design of schools, hospitals, public parks or transport infrastructure, the OQGA advocates for thoughtful design that meets the needs of all Queenslanders. Because buildings are more than bricks and mortar. They are the vessels of our history, the backdrop to our daily lives, and the canvas for our city’s future. By inviting the community to discover, share and learn about the value of architecture, design and heritage, we empower everyone to become active participants in Brisbane’s evolving story.

This is why the OQGA proudly supports Brisbane Open House, unlocking the doors to some of the city’s most significant buildings and spaces. Brisbane Open House is an opportunity to reflect on what makes our city unique. From the new iconic Kangaroo Point Bridge and sub-tropic Heritage Lanes to the innovative art-based insertion of Fish Lane. Every place tells a story of creativity, resilience and community. By exploring these spaces we deepen our understanding of how good design can foster inclusion, sustainability and a sense of belonging.

Brisbane has an exciting future ahead. As we look ahead to hosting the world in 2032, the significance of our built environment has never been more important. In just a few short years, the eyes of the world will be on Brisbane. Our streets, venues and public spaces will become the stage for unforgettable moments of athletic achievement and global celebration. But beyond the spectacle, the legacy we create will be measured by the quality of the city we leave behind for future generations.

Events such as Brisbane Open house provide an opportunity to reflect on our past whilst imaging our collective future. As we count down to 2032, let’s ensure that Brisbane’s growth is guided by thoughtful design, respect for heritage and a spirit of openness and inclusion. Let’s create a city that is not just ready for the world, but worthy of its people-today, tomorrow, and for generations to come.
