With Australia’s aging population set to grow, how do we now provide access to secure and affordable housing for this demographic? How do we design high-quality homes that meet the needs of seniors while remaining affordable to those on low incomes? How do we encourage and maintain a vibrant community within a senior’s complex? What does the research tell us about positive tenant take up and outcomes? These are some of the questions we will explore in our discussion panel at Caggara House, a purpose-built complex developed by BHC Creating Liveable Communities in partnership with the Queensland Department of Housing and Public Works. Caggara House provides high-quality homes for seniors previously living in under-occupied public housing properties.
Join our panel of experts as we discuss why our tenants chose to transition from their Department of Housing under-occupied homes into Caggara House’s one bedroom units and what we’ve learnt two years on; how to design, build and deliver better homes for Australia’s ageing population.
Our panel includes Arkhefield architects Jemima Rosevear and David Langley, University of Queensland lead researcher Professor Lynda Cheshire and BHC’s Development and Operations team.
