Mark your calendars: Brisbane Open House returns from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 July 2027, and we’re already busy shaping the program.

Each year, buildings and spaces that are usually closed to the public open their doors, giving locals and visitors the chance to explore the places that shape our city. From heritage homes and civic landmarks to new architecture and behind-the-scenes spaces, it’s a celebration for anyone curious about Brisbane.

“It’s a prompt to see a different place each year and it’s become a little tradition. It’s like being a tourist at home.” (Kate, BOH 2026 visitor)

In July this year, Brisbane Open House welcomed more than 47,000 visits to 92 buildings across the city. Visitors explored City Hall, climbed the Spring Hill Windmill Tower, toured tugboats at the Port of Brisbane and were welcomed into 16 architect-designed homes.

None of it would be possible without the people who open their doors, and that’s where you come in. Expressions of Interest are now open for the 2027 program, and we’re looking for the buildings, places and people who’ll make it happen.

Now over three days

For the first time, the program extends to the Friday, giving collaborators the option to open on Friday 16 July as well as across the weekend. The program will also feature talks, industry events and workshops in the lead-up to the weekend.

Why open your doors?

This year, 36 buildings joined the program for the first time, alongside favourites such as ABC Brisbane, the Masonic Memorial Centre and Roma Street Fire Station. Hosts tell us it’s one of the most rewarding things they do all year, and visitors agree:

“I loved that people opened their homes and shared their ideas. The owners of Middle House and Eisenmenger House were fantastic.” (Naomi)

“Being able to finally see the Old Windmill Tower and service reservoirs at Spring Hill. We’d been trying to see this for the past few years.” (Daryl)

There’s a special energy across the weekend as thousands of people set out to see the city differently. For our hosts, it’s a chance to share their stories with an audience that’s genuinely interested, and to be part of a celebration that keeps growing each year.

You don’t need a landmark

Brisbane Open House is about the stories behind our city, not just its headline buildings. Past programs have included architects’ studios, private homes, heritage halls, workshops, industrial sites and infrastructure. We also welcome walks, talks, workshops, children’s activities and exhibitions.

You might be:

  • an architect with a recent project or your own studio;
  • a homeowner proud of a house with a story;
  • an organisation with a building the public rarely gets to see;
  • a community group with a walk, talk or activity to share.

How to get involved

Applying takes only a few minutes, and submitting an Expression of Interest is free and not a commitment; it simply starts the conversation. Once you’re in touch, our team will help you work out the best way to take part, whether that’s a drop-in opening, pre-booked tours or a special event.

EOIs close Friday 19 February 2027.
