An initiative of the Stockwell Foundation, the Brisbane Portrait Gallery amplifies Queensland artists and the diverse communities that shape our region. The space presents portraiture as an accessible, intimate art form exploring identity, representation, and the human story.

As Brisbane/Meanjin grows toward 2032 and beyond, the Gallery documents the people defining this moment in our city’s history – showing that a cultural institution can be both artistically ambitious and genuinely inclusive. This is a space where Brisbane/Meanjin sees itself reflected, questioned, and celebrated through the transformative power of portraiture.

Through innovative exhibitions and community engagement, the Brisbane Portrait Gallery illuminate the stories of the individuals and communities shaping our region. The space champions excellence, experimentation, and emerging practitioners – providing a platform for bold new voices alongside some of Australia’s leading portrait artists.
