One Mooloomba is a thoughtfully designed family retreat located in the heart of Mulumba (Point Lookout). Designed to tread lightly on the land, the project consists of two modestly scaled fibro beach shacks that sit comfortably within the dune landscape. The design respects the natural contours of the site, nestled among pandanus, banksias, and coastal vegetation, with views that open to the ocean beyond.
Far from a statement piece, One Mooloomba is deliberately humble—crafted as a haven for gathering with family and friends. The architecture celebrates simplicity and connection: open living spaces flow seamlessly into shaded outdoor areas, encouraging long lunches, storytelling, and shared moments after a morning swim or surf. Materials were selected for their durability and relaxed character, referencing the island’s long history of unpretentious holiday dwellings.
Awarded a 2025 Brisbane Regional Commendation by the Australian Institute of Architects, the home stands as a respectful and enduring response to its site—celebrating the joy of coastal living, island rhythms, and the beauty of slowing down.
