The design explores a blurred relationship between indoor and outdoor living, allowing the house to operate as three distinct components that can be separated and occupied by different families when needed.
At its centre, the lower level is organised around a courtyard, conceived as an artificial terrain that provides a rare expanse of flat lawn while creating a sheltered, natural sanctuary within the building perimeter.
Materially, the house draws on a familiar Stradbroke palette, with lightweight cladding and weathering timber. The timber is pre-treated in a soft grey finish to initiate the ageing process and establish a sympathetic presence within its coastal setting.
Internally, the focus is on dissolving boundaries and strengthening connections to the landscape and surrounding views.
Beautiful timber doors and rich timber detailing lend a tactile warmth, creating a home that feels equally suited to a quiet weekend retreat for a couple or to larger family gatherings, flexibly accommodating different scales of occupation with ease and comfort.
