Big cities are bustling with people and serve as hubs of culture and development. Yet, amid that vibrancy, cities can often make us feel lonely and isolated. Creating spaces where we can live, connect, converse, make friends with strangers, and deepen bonds with those we already know can help nurture us.
Transforming public areas into “third places” — welcoming spaces beyond home and work — offers one way forward, encouraging people to engage in shared experiences and fostering healthier, more fulfilling lives. Elizabeth Arcade (renovation by Arkhefield) stands as a compelling answer, reaffirming architecture’s role in weaving together people and the city.
This special event invites people to experience public spaces that, even when limited in area, are thoughtfully expanded to provide more room for recreation, connection and personal growth.
From 2pm to 5pm, everyone is invited to gather at the “community hub”, situated at the centre of the arcade for:
- A pop-up library with curated book selections for all ages
- Delicious snacks and desserts to purchase from nearby eateries
- A live DJ set featuring mellow, carefully curated grooves throughout the afternoon
- On the spot customised poetry
Come unwind and enjoy the presence of others while still finding space for yourself.
