Start: The shade structure in Residents Green off Hood Street, UQ Campus
In the wake of Covid lockdowns that reshaped how we value outdoor spaces, UQ identified opportunities across its campuses to enhance spaces for learning, socialising and recreation. The Residents Green, previously occupied by maintenance facilities, has been transformed into an active and passive recreation space for the growing campus resident population, with social and outdoor study areas off Hood Street.
Nearby, The Printery, designed by James P. Birrell and Peter D. Heathwood in 1963, had fallen into disrepair. LatStudios – who will present this walk – worked with the University to repurpose this heritage structure, delivering much-needed shade and student amenity while the site awaits its future educational use.
